How do I become Wiccan?

As of January 1, 2008, the forum has become inactive. In its place I have created an email list through yahoogroups. Here people can discuss as they did on the forum, and theoretically I'll post things like site updates.

This site is in the process of being effectively divided into two sections. The first section will contain the material you are familiar with on this site: information about Wicca primarily aimed at other Wiccans addressing some of the problems and generally silliness that inundate us. The navigation at right continues to link to this material.

The new second section is a Wicca 101/FAQ primarily aimed at non-Wiccans who are interested in learning about Wicca at a very basic level: who we are, what we believe, what we do and don't do, and so forth. It will address misconceptions and concerns sometimes raised by non-Wiccans unfamiliar with us. While a navigation may be built for this section in the future, at present it is accessible through its main page (linked to in the above link).

Who are "The Rest of Us" anyhow?

  • Wiccans who aren't in it for show, to make a political statement, to upset their parents or express a dislike of any other religion.
  • Eclectics, Traditionals, Solitaries, coven members, newcomers, elders, and everyone in-between. It isn't about being "right". It's about being smart.[more]
  • Those who value and respect history and have no need of an erroneous Old Religion.[More]
  • Those who understand that "toleration" means acceptance of all religions, not just certain ones, and that continuing to propagate the myth of all Christianity persecuting us is nothing short of a persecution against Christianity. [More]
  • Those who also understand that toleration is not the same as belief. Blind absorption of other religions' traditions and pantheons is not only silly but insulting.
  • We cover a large variety of beliefs, but we likewise do not accept that "Wicca is anything you want it to be." [More]

Wicca has become inundated with contradictory and even nonsensical ideas. Contradiction is not necessarily bad - as long as you can recognize that fact and know why you believe one over the other. But where do you even start?

You stop blindly accepting. This purpose of this site is not to tell you how to believe. It's to explain away a great many misconceptions and put forth ideas to consider in your own studies.
